Google Places. Every venue is verified as operating, rated 4.0 or above with at least 30 reviews, then re-verified monthly. Closed venues are removed automatically.
N-03How are venues selected?
By review count and rating within each district and category, filtered by fixed adjudication rules. Listing is informational — venues don't pay to appear, and ranking is not endorsement.
N-04Which district should I start with?
Hualien City, without question — Dongdamen Night Market fires up at dusk and downtown bars pour until about 1 a.m., all within one walk. Ji'an handles the everyday night, Shoufeng handles the campus crowd; the coastline and the valley are slow-train territory — few venues, but stars the city never shows.
N-05Is Hualien nightlife reachable without a car?
The downtown core is walkable. Crossing districts means TRA local trains, scooters or ride-hailing — night transit is scarce and there is no metro. After drinks, a designated driver is the only answer.
