The campus-town night of NDHU and Zhixue Street — crowds that follow the academic calendar. Shoufeng's night hangs on the academic calendar. In term time, Zhixue Street's braised-snack, popcorn-chicken and bubble-tea shops run past ten; in summer and winter break the whole street dims early. Promised Land Resort and Liyu Lake hold the quiet resort end, and NDHU's great lawns are for walking under the stars. For real bustle, the train puts you back in Hualien City in twenty minutes.

N-01Is Zhixue Street lively at night?
Lively in term time - student eateries and late-night snack shops run to ten or eleven. In school breaks crowds halve and some shops close. Honest tip - check the academic calendar before you come.
N-02How do I get to Shoufeng and Zhixue?
Zhixue Street is a short walk from TRA Zhixue Station, and Shoufeng Station is near the township center. By car take Highway 9 or 11C - twenty to thirty minutes from Hualien City.
N-03What's the budget like?
Student prices - NT$150-250 a head eats you well for late-night snacks. The cheapest night out in all of Hualien County.
N-04What else is there at night?
A quiet stargazing walk on the NDHU campus (open, but keep it low-key), Liyu Lake at night is calm - except firefly season around April-May - and Promised Land's night views are for resort guests.
N-05Is Shoufeng safe late at night?
Calm overall, but Highway 9 traffic runs fast at night and streetlights are sparse - stay to the edge and wear reflectives on foot or scooter. Zhixue Street goes quiet fast after closing, so head home early.
N-06What if I want a bigger night?
Zhixue Street is food only - no bar strip. A local train or a 20-30 minute drive back to Hualien City covers bars, KTV and late-night eats in one go.
